Dr. Terry received his medical degree from the University of Alberta in 1965, finished an Internal Medicine internship from the Holy Cross Hospital in 1972, and completed residences at both the U of A Hospital and the National Defence Medical Centre in Ottawa. Dr. Terry taught at the University of Calgary (U of C) Medical School from 1972-2003. Currently, he remains an Associate Clinical Professor at the U of C. In fact, his contributions to clinical teaching saw him awarded with the Clinician of the Year award in 2003. Additionally, because of his outstanding abilities to teach and his contributions to the Rockyview Hospital when he was their Chief of Medicine (1993 – 2003), the Rockyview developed the Dr. Terry Groves Award, awarded to those individuals demonstrating excellence in clinical teaching.
When young, both of Dr. Terry’s children developed diabetes. Dr. Terry wanted to learn more about what was going on, how diabetes could be controlled, and how his children could live long, happy and healthy lives. This developed his passion in the areas of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and vascular protection.

Now, Dr. Terry enjoys any free time he has travelling around the world, checking off his destination bucket list.
